ChatGPT vs. Bard: Which Is the Best AI Chatbot?
ChatGPT was developed by OpenAI, which Microsoft invested in. After just five days of launching, it had 1 million users and became considered the smartest AI in the world.
ChatGPT has already had a huge impact on the technology industry and humans in general, so you might wonder if AI can ever replace humans and if ChatGPT will disrupt Google.
Google has developed a chatbot similar to ChatGPT called “Google Bard”. Today, we will compare Google Bard and ChatGPT.

What Is Google Bard?
At the beginning of February 2023, Alphabet Inc, the holding company of Google, launched an AI chatbot to compete with ChatGPT called “Google Bard”. Bard is currently only open to a limited number of users.
However, Bard is similar to ChatGPT in terms of gathering complicated information to analyse and simulate human conversations using natural language. However, people are questioning if Bard can really compete with ChatGPT.
The Comparison Between ChatGPT vs. Bard
ChatGPT and Bard are both chatbots, but ChatGPT utilises GPT-3.5 (Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3.5) model, and Google Bard utilises the LaMDA model.
However, GPT3.5 and LaMDA are both large language models. GPT-3.5 has 175,000 million parameters, and LaMDA has 137,000 million parameters. LaMDA was designed to understand human conversation and give human-like responses, and GPT was developed to be a general language model.
As you can see from the above information, Bard can definitely compete with ChatGPT. Bard applies information from the internet, and ChatGPT utilises data from its source. Therefore, Google Bard provides more up-to-date information than ChatGPT, which only provides information from up to 2021.
On the other hand, the information that Bard gathers from the internet might be incorrect, and Google Bard still cannot detect plagiarism, while ChatGPT can detect plagiarism by using the AI Text Classifier tool. Therefore, the information provided by Bard needs to be checked for accuracy before being released to the public.
Bard and ChatGPT both have weaknesses and strengths, so we cannot say if Bard will be better than ChatGPT. Either way, Google’s updated algorithm in 2023 mentioned that human-written content is still significant.
Future Function of Bard
ChatGPT offers translations, content creation, and in-depth research, which significantly impacts the education industry by helping students pass exams.
However, Bard utilises the LaMDA language model, which is different from ChatGPT; therefore, Bard provides more intensive information and could steal market share from ChatGPT with its expected future functions:
Creative writing
Google Bard provides recommended tools to create new content and also recommends synonyms and related words for users to select. Moreover, Google Bard has functions to evaluate the writing and provide comments to adjust writing style, tone, and structure for better quality writing.
Personal assistance
Bard AI is expected to provide a time management function similar to a calendar. Moreover, Bard’s chatbot will have an automatic function much like a personal assistant able to reserve restaurants, find products and services, and purchase products.
AI for Google Meet, Google Docs and Gmail
AI can be used as a translator during meetings on Google Meet, adjust sentences and check spellings in Google Docs, and respond to emails via Gmail. Bard is developing its offering to compete with ChatGPT. Microsoft plans to let companies, schools, and governments create their own AI chatbot for their own purposes, such as call centres for customer services. Moreover, AI chatbots will be applied to tools, such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
Conclusion of ChatGPT vs. Bard
Currently, Bard is in the trial stage. Sudar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, revealed that Bard will be launched in a few weeks, which shows their dedication to developing AI technology. This is just the beginning of AI technology, though. ChatGPT and Bard will face challenges with regards to factors such as ethical and data accuracy standards or their ability to replace humans in jobs.
Therefore, the competition between Bard and ChatGPT will likely be endless, and both AI chatbots will need to be developed continuously to dominate the field.
